Chizzuk Emunah by Rabbi Yitzchak ben Avraham of Troki. Amsterdam, 1705. - A sharp polemical work against Christianity and its arguments against Judaism. The author systematically refutes Christian claims, including their attempts to prove their faith from the Hebrew Scriptures, their assertions regarding the messianic status of Jesus, and other key theological disputes. The author, Yitzchak ben Avraham of Troki, was a renowned Karaite scholar from Lithuania. This is the only Karaite work that was accepted by the broader Jewish community and was even translated into Yiddish, primarily due to its fierce critique of Christianity. The book was first published by the Christian theologian Johann Christoph Wagenseil in 1681. For obvious reasons, the printer’s name does not appear in this edition. [That same year, another edition of 100 leaves was printed in Amsterdam.] Owner’s inscriptions. 124 leaves. Size: 12 cm. Vellum binding. Condition: The body of the book is in good condition, with minor stains (mainly on the final leaves). Antique vellum binding, detached and damaged. The spine is defective.
