Title page artistically completed by hand—faithfully matching the original! On the title page: “Tapuchei Zahav b’maskiot kesef davar al ofanav… behold, this is a new thing… and hidden secrets, the taste of Marut, the secret of the Kingdom of the House of David, head of the poets. Therefore I called it: Yesod Shirim.” This is the “Midrash HaNe’elam” on Ruth – a Zoharic text also known as Midrash HaNe’elam. This is the first printed edition of this foundational Kabbalistic work. It is the earliest printing of this section of the Zohar, on the Scroll of Ruth, printed close in time to the first editions of the Zohar itself in Mantua and Cremona (1558–1560). Printed in Tübingen, a town in southern Germany. A Jewish printing house operated there only in the year 1560, during which only six books were published—each of them rare and of great importance.
