Chazon Nachum. Constantinople, 1745. First edition - Chazon Nachum, commentary on the Mishnayot of Seder Taharot, by the Rishon LeTzion Rabbi Eliezer Nachum. With the text of the Mishnah. First edition. Constantinople, 1745. The author, Rabbi Eliezer Nachum [1662–1745], was born in Istanbul and later settled in Adrianople, where he headed a large yeshiva and served as Av Beit Din. Around 1735 he immigrated to the Land of Israel and, a few years later, was appointed Rishon LeTzion (Sephardic Chief Rabbi), a position he held until his passing. In the final pages of the book appears a ruling concerning the Tikun HaKohanim (Priestly Rectification), a polemic opposing one who challenged the Tikun HaKohanim instituted by Rabbi Shmuel Abuhav, author of Devar Shmuel. The author appears to have passed away during the printing of the book, as the title page refers to him with the honorific “may he live and be well, ” while the introduction refers to him as deceased.
