The Chid”a wrote about the author: “The aforementioned rabbi enlightens the eyes of the exile with his Knesset HaGedolah books, which were printed in eight parts. Without them, no halachic authority proficient in the paths of instruction would raise his hand in any halachic matter until he would first go swiftly to the synagogue and see what his mouth has said and what the eyes of his wisdom allude to. Only after leaving the synagogue with calm spirit would he rule: 'Yoreh Yoreh'.” With the stamps of Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Rabbi Chaim Berlin (1832–1913), one of the great figures of his generation and a prominent leader of Lithuanian and Jerusalem Jewry. Eldest son of the Netziv of Volozhin. Rabbi Chaim served as Chief Rabbi of Moscow and as Rosh Yeshivah of the famed Volozhin Yeshiva, known as the “mother of all yeshivot, ” as well as Av Beit Din and Ram of Volozhin. Later, he served as Rabbi of Kobrin. In 1906, he was invited to Jerusalem, and after the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, he was recognized for his halachic authority and greatness as the Rabbi of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem, though he declined to accept the position officially.
