First Edition: Zot Zikaron, in honor of one of the greatest Admorim of the generations – the Chozeh of Lublin. Lemberg, 1851 (תרי”א) - Zot Zikaron – Teachings and mystical Torah insights (Razin d’Orayta) by the holy man of God, Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz, the revered Chozeh (Seer) of Lublin, one of the greatest Admorim of all generations and mentor to the leading Chassidic masters of his time. First edition, Lemberg, 1851 (תרי”א). This is the first printing of the renowned Chassidic work Zot Zikaron, authored by the Chozeh of Lublin, the spiritual father of Polish Chassidut and known as the “Rebbe of Rebbes.” The Chozeh penned his teachings himself, beginning his writings with the kabbalistic intention: ”For the sake of unifying the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Divine Presence, with awe and love, to unite the name Yud-Heh with Vav-Heh in perfect unity, in the name of all Israel and to raise the Shekhinah from the dust, I hereby prepare myself to innovate Torah insights in the presence of attentive companions…” The legendary Chidushei HaRim of Ger, one of his foremost disciples, once remarked: “I do not study Chassidic works, because most authors wrote for their own generations. But the writings of the Chozeh were composed for all generations and hold the same power as the words of the Sages.” Stefansky Chassidut, no. 194. Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz (1745–1815), known as the Chozeh of Lublin and the Rebbe of Lublin, was one of the central figures in the spread of Chassidut throughout Poland. Famed for his prophetic vision – some said he could “see from one end of the world to the other, ” and others said he could perceive the innermost thoughts of others. A disciple of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, he became the leading Chassidic authority in Galicia and Poland following his mentor’s passing, serving in that capacity for over 30 years. He ordained and launched the careers of numerous dynastic founders across the region. His students include many of the greatest names in Chassidic history: The Yid HaKadosh of Peshischa, Rabbi Simcha Bunim of Peshischa, the Saraf of Strelisk, Rabbi Shalom of Belz, the Kotzker Rebbe, Rabbi Naftali of Ropshitz, the Bnei Yissaschar, Rabbi Yechezkel of Kuzmir, Rabbi David of Lelov, the Or LaShamayim of Apta, the Meor Vashemesh, the Saraf of Mogelnitza, the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, and the Chiddushei HaRim of Ger, among many others.
