Kohelet David by the holy Rabbi David of Tolna. First edition. Segulah book - Kohelet David – Chassidic insights on the weekly Torah portions and festivals, by the renowned Admor Rabbi David of Tolna. Lublin, 1881. First edition, published during the author’s lifetime. The book was brought to print by the holy author in his final year; he passed away on the 10th of Iyar, 1882, and the book was printed at the beginning of that same year. In the introduction, the author writes that these teachings were delivered each Shabbat “since God appointed me as a speaker of righteousness to lead the Jewish congregation on the upright path, binding them with strong and firm bonds to fulfill the will of our Father in Heaven.” At the end of the introduction, he explains the title of the book, noting it is also in memory of his son Mordechai who passed away: “for Mordechai also alludes to the mystery of Shabbat, which is peace, as the verse says, ‘and he spoke peace to all his seed, ’ and may it be fulfilled in us, ‘and he spoke peace to all his seed.’” As is well known, the works of the holy Rabbi of Tolna are unique in that he personally authored, printed, and published them himself. The holy Rabbi David of Tolna [1808–1882], sixth son of the holy Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl and disciple of Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apta, served as Rebbe in Vasylkiv, and later, due to government persecution, moved his court to Tolna, which became one of the great centers of Chassidut in Ukraine. 80 leaves, 22.5 cm.
