On the title page: “As we were instructed by our mighty Gaon, the Rosh Yeshiva, our teacher Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna… also… glimpses into the sanctity of the Torah… from the depths of the teachings of the Ari.” A unique composition on the principles of the Rif. Includes: the methodology of the Rif’s rulings, analysis of the approaches of the Rif, Rashi, and their distinctions, the commandment of reciting Keri’at Shema according to the Rif’s opinion, the matter of fowl without a tradition, and more. This book serves as an example from a larger work titled Ma’aseh Alfes, which was never printed. The author, Rabbi Avraham Lichtenstein (d. c. 1832), was the son of Rabbi Eliezer Lipman, who in turn was the son of the Gaon Rabbi Kalman Lichtenstein, Av Beit Din of Bialystok. On his mother’s side, Rabbi Avraham was the grandson of Rabbi Natan, the brother of the holy tzaddikim Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk and Rabbi Zusha of Anipoli. Rabbi Avraham served as rabbi in Lida, Vilkomir, Proshnitz, and other towns. He authored numerous works: Hein Tzedek, Tikkun HaMiddot, HaMachazeh, Maamar HaTorah VeHaMitzvah, Iggeret HaTzofeh, Knafayim Nesherim, Even Tekumah, Eshkol Beramah on the Haggadah, Eshkol Migdannot, and more. Attached is material about the author titled “The Chassidic Gaon and the Haggadah of the Gra.” On the title page: a square stamp “Avraham ben Rafael z”l.” This is the known stamp of the holy Gaon Rabbi Avraham Landa, Av Beit Din of Tsekhanov. The holy Gaon Rabbi Avraham of Tsekhanov, author of Zechuta D’Avraham (1749–1875; Otzar HaRabbanim 560), was one of the great sages of Poland in both revealed and hidden Torah, a holy and renowned man. He was the father of Rabbi Berish of Biala and patriarch of the Strikov dynasty of Rebbes. On leaves 17 and 20: scholarly glosses in manuscript. Exceptionally rare book. 34 leaves. 20 cm.
