First Edition: Shu”t Maharam of Lublin. Venice, 1618–1619. Rare foundational work - Sefer She'elot U'Teshuvot of the Maharam of Lublin, by the great Torah luminary Rabbi Meir, Av Beit Din of Lublin—one of the leading sages of the Acharonim and teacher of the holy Shla”h. Venice, 1618–1619. Rare foundational work. The first edition of one of the most important responsa works in the Jewish literary canon, quoted in nearly all halachic works that followed. This first edition appears only rarely in auctions, and most often in incomplete copies. Before us is a complete copy. The title as printed on the title page is: Sefer She'elot U'Teshuvot, and later on the page an alternate title is mentioned: Mehir Einei Chachamim, but the name that was widely accepted in the Torah world is Shu”t Maharam of Lublin, and this is how the work is referred to throughout halachic literature. Stefansky, Sifrei Yessod 289. 114 leaves. 29.5 cm. Good condition. Signature and ownership stamp. Aging stains. A few wormholes. Ancient leather binding in good condition, with remnants of original clasps.
