Bound volume from the year 1872 of the important newspaper with its supplement, printed in Vienna. A newspaper and supplement marking the beginnings of Ladino journalism. Il Correo de Viena was the first Jewish–Ladino newspaper printed outside the Ottoman Empire, and it was distributed to Ladino-speaking communities across Europe and the Middle East. In the sixth decade of the 19th century, as Sephardic Jewry sought a path of renewal between tradition and modernity, one of the most significant literary expressions of the era emerged—Il Correo de Viena, which delivered not only news and opinions, but also served as a cultural and intellectual platform.
