A Hidden Treasure: Notebook of Torah Novellae in the Autograph of the Posek HaDor, Maran Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach - Complete lined notebook [15 written leaves] of novellae in the sacred autograph of the great Torah luminary, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, whose brilliant insights and Torah teachings continue to serve as the foundation for many areas of halachah to this day. Autograph manuscript. [Jerusalem, circa early 1940s]. The novellae focus on the laws of Shabbat, an area in which Rabbi Shlomo Zalman was regarded as an undisputed authority, following the publication of his renowned work Meorei Esh on the halachot of electricity on Shabbat—written in his twenties, a work that brought him wide recognition. The notebook includes both structured halachic analyses and novellae on the daf. Some of the insights in this manuscript appear in his work Minchat Shlomo on Tractate Shabbat, but in a completely different version. The gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach [1910–1995], Rosh Yeshiva of Kol Torah and one of the greatest halachic authorities of the last generation. Known as the “posek of the generation, ” his halachic rulings were accepted across all segments of the Jewish world. At age 24, he published Meorei Esh on the subject of electricity on Shabbat, establishing him as the preeminent authority in halachah and technology. His rulings on Hilchot Shabbat were disseminated by his student Rabbi Neuwirth in the widely used Shemirat Shabbat Kehilchatah. Rabbi Shlomo Zalman was renowned for his humility, gentleness, and pleasant demeanor. He never accepted an official rabbinical position. His funeral was attended by hundreds of thousands.
