On the title page: Printed at the printing house of Zuan di Gara “with the typefaces and letters of Bomberg, ” and indeed the book was printed in large type and fine black ink. On the title page is the signature of the gaon Rabbi Avraham Litsch HaLevi Rosenbaum of Pressburg (1802–1877), who was born and died in Pressburg. He was among the greatest disciples of the Chatam Sofer, Rabbi Mordechai Banet, and Rabbi Aharon Sofer of Szerdahely. He resided in Nitra, where he established a prominent yeshivah and taught Torah to many disciples. He served there for over twenty years as a dayan, and later returned to Pressburg, where he continued teaching and was one of the founders of the “Yesodei HaTorah” Talmud Torah in Pressburg. He authored Shu”t Ben Yehuda (Pressburg, 1871) and Shoshanat Avraham (Pressburg, 1877). On the leaf following the title page is the signature of his son: Yehuda Litsch Segal Rosenbaum, a prominent figure in Pressburg. Stamp of the gaon Rabbi Shalom Moshe HaLevi Ungar, Av Beit Din of Nitra (1916–2003), son of the holy Rabbi Shmuel Dovid, Av Beit Din of Nitra. After his marriage, he secluded himself entirely in his room, laboring in Torah day and night, with his needs passed to him through a window. During the Holocaust, he wandered and suffered with the Nitra Yeshivah and its members, but through divine mercy was saved. After the war, he gathered the surviving remnant and reestablished the yeshivah in Nitra, and later in the United States. After his passing, his work Masa'at Moshe was published in two volumes. 258 leaves. 33 cm. Marginal notes in early Oriental script. Very good condition. Thick paper. Minor age stains.
