The author, Naphtali Herz Wessely (1725–1805), was one of the pioneers of the Haskalah movement—a linguist, writer, and poet. Born in Hamburg and raised in Copenhagen, he studied Talmud and Halachic works in yeshivot, while also pursuing Hebrew grammar, mathematics, sciences, history, and foreign languages. He entered the fields of commerce and banking, working in a bank in Amsterdam. In 1769, he left Amsterdam and returned to Copenhagen. Stamp of Rabbi Meir Leibush – the Malbim. Rabbi Meir Leibush ben Yechiel Michel (Weiser), the Malbim (1809–1879), was renowned as a prodigious genius. He authored Artzot HaChaim on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim at a very young age, receiving approbations from the greatest rabbis of the time. Though he was among the Torah giants of his generation in all areas of learning, he became best known for his classical commentary HaTorah VeHaMitzvah on the Torah and the rest of the Tanach.
