Ketoret HaSamim. Amsterdam, 1671. Exceptionally rare book. Only edition - The Five Books of the Torah with Targumim and the commentary Ketoret HaSamim on the Targumim, in the kabbalistic method, by Rabbi Mordechai ben Naftali Hirsch of Kuzmir. Amsterdam, 1671. Rare work, printed over the course of many years. Only edition. The Chumash is printed with Targum Yonatan and Targum Yerushalmi, along with a commentary on both, as well as on Targum Onkelos. The Torah text appears in small vocalized letters with cantillation marks, the Targumim in unvocalized square script, and the commentary is printed along the lower section of the page. The author, known as “the foremost of the preachers, ” prepared the work for print and obtained numerous approbations from the great sages of his time, beginning in 1647, including Rabbi Yeshaya Horowitz (the Shelah), the Council of Four Lands, and others. The title page states the year 1671, while the colophon on leaf 92 is dated 1677. During the printing process, the author passed away, and the printer Uri Fayvish HaLevi of Amsterdam records his great efforts to complete the printing after the author's death. The book was proofread by R. Yekutiel Blitz, the renowned Amsterdam proofreader. Only edition. Known otherwise only from facsimile reproductions. Owner’s signature. 92; 76, [1] leaves. 28 cm.
