El Yitzchak. Lemberg, ca. 1820. Extremely Rare - Kabbalistic Commentary on the Piyyut Chad Gadya. By Rabbi Yitzchak ben Avraham, Known as “Rabbi Yitzchak HaGadol, ” Teacher of the Magen Avraham and Member of the Council of the Four Lands. [Lemberg, ca. 1820]. Only Edition. The booklet was copied from an ancient manuscript in the possession of the pious scholar and kabbalist Rabbi Menachem Manish of Drobosh. On the title page it is stated that the piyyut Chad Gadya is like a riddle and its words are obscure, and that some have mocked it; therefore this commentary was written. The author (ca. 1620–1685) was among the greatest of his generation, a master of both revealed and hidden Torah, a leading halachic authority, and a primary disciple of Rabbi Yonah Teomim, author of Kikayon DeYona. He served as rabbi and dayan in important communities, and ultimately as rabbi of Poznań. His responsa were printed in She’elot U’Teshuvot Rabbeinu Yitzchak HaGadol of Poznań.
