First edition of this renowned collection of responsa, one of the foundational works in halachic jurisprudence, authored by one of the most prominent responsa scholars of all generations. Rabbi David ben Zimra (Radbaz) [1480–1572] was among the greatest sages of the transitional period between the Rishonim and Acharonim. A Spanish exile, he lived and taught in Tzfat and Jerusalem, later traveled to Fez and Cairo, and eventually returned to Eretz Yisrael. He authored thousands of halachic responsa. Owner’s Signature and Marginalia: Rabbi Yehuda Burela (YBN) – Son of Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Burela, a dayan in the Beit Din of the Maharit Algazi. His novellae Nachalat Yehuda were printed together with his father’s Mekor Yisrael. Owner’s Signature: Rabbi Ze’ev Assia – Also known as Der Slanter Doktor, Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf Levinzon, a respected physician and rabbi summoned by the rabbis of Jerusalem during the plague of 1844 to provide medical assistance. In a letter from the Rabbi of Slant, he is praised as “the precious and distinguished rabbinic scholar, truly God-fearing, and a man of great intellect and science, our teacher Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf son of Rabbi Moshe.” Reference: Stefansky, Sifrei Yesod, no. 281.
