For an unknown reason, the printing of this book was stopped (leaf 149) in the middle of the section “Zikhron Gittin.” The author, Rabbi Raphael Yitzchak Yisrael (1809–1892), Av Beit Din of Rhodes and in his later years Av Beit Din of Jerusalem, was crowned as rabbi of Rhodes in 1853, and in 1883 immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in Jerusalem, where he was crowned as Av Beit Din. Among his books are Beit HaYayin, sermons, and Kol Koreh. His Torah novellae are frequently cited in the works of Sephardic sages, Rabbi Chaim Palaggi, his son Rabbi Avraham Palaggi, and in the books Kavod Yaakov, Sha’arei Rachamim, Vayeshev Yosef. His son-in-law was Rabbi Rachamim Franco, author of Sha’arei Rachamim and Av Beit Din of Hebron. Signature and stamp of ownership on the title page: “the young Avraham Marsiana, emissary of the Westerners.” Rabbi Avraham Marciano, born in the city of Debdou, Morocco, immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1865, received rabbinical ordination from the Rishon LeTzion, the Yisa Berakha, served in the communities of Ioannina, and later in Shechem (Nablus). He went twice as a community emissary (shadar) and was one of the leaders of the Western Sephardic community in Jerusalem. His Torah novellae remain in manuscript.
