Knesset HaGedolah – The Copy of the “Kapei Aharon, ” Rabbi Aharon Azriel. - Knesset HaGedolah by Rabbi Chaim Benveniste, Even HaEzer section. Lviv, 1861. On the title page: ownership inscription by the divine kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Azriel, signed: A.A.N.H. “For the service of my Creator, I purchased this book from the esteemed Rav ? ben Pele ?, may I merit to delve into it – I, my offspring and the offspring of my offspring. A.A.N.H.” Rabbi Aharon Azriel would customarily sign “A.A.N.H.” and explains the meaning of this acronym in the introduction to his book Kapei Aharon. The great kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Azriel (1819–1879). In his first marriage, he was the son-in-law of the saintly sage and master of mussar, Rabbi Eliezer Papo, author of Pele Yo’etz. He studied revealed Torah under Chacham Nissim Shmuel Yehuda Aruatz and Kabbalah under Chacham Chaim Yedidya Rafael Abulafia, head of the Beit El kabbalists’ yeshiva. After his teacher’s passing, he succeeded him as head of the Beit El kabbalists’ yeshiva and later served as head of the Beit Din of the Sephardic community in Jerusalem. His gravestone reads: “…Ra’avad… one of the leading members of the Sanhedrin, akin to an angel of the Lord of Hosts, the wondrous rabbi and divine kabbalist… our teacher Rabbi Aharon Azriel… author of Kefi Aharon.” [1], 107 leaves.
