However, the commentary is only on the halachic sections of the Yerushalmi, and therefore the aggadic passages of the Yerushalmi were omitted and not printed, as well as several sugyot that the commentator did not address. Rabbi Yehoshua Rafael Benveniste (1590–1668), a disciple of Rabbi Yosef of Trani (the Maharit), served as rabbi and dayan in Constantinople and was among the prominent rabbis and leaders in Turkey. He authored many books, among them this commentary on the Yerushalmi. The Chida wrote that part of his writings were destroyed in a great fire that broke out in Constantinople.
