Autograph Letter by Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in Praise of the ‘Etz Chaim Atlas’ Series – [1981] - A handwritten letter praising the monumental book series authored by Rabbi Rafael Halperin – the Etz Chaim Encyclopedia, documenting the history of the Jewish people from its origins until modern times In his letter, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef emphasizes the great importance of knowing the lives and history of the sages of Israel, writing: ”For from it come the issues of life – also in regard to understanding halachic rulings” He further notes that he himself made use of the books in his studies The series was compiled and published over several years. Although Rabbi Ovadia had already provided a letter of approbation (haskama) earlier, during the course of the publication process he was asked to publicly praise the project. In this letter, he does so warmly and concludes with a blessing to the author to merit completing the work successfully Rabbi Ovadia Yosef (1920–2013), Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel (Rishon LeZion), spiritual leader and President of the Council of Torah Sages of the Shas Party, was the most prominent Sephardic rabbi of his generation and widely known as the Posek HaDor (leading halachic authority of the generation).
