Letter from Rabbi Aryeh Levin, regarding a request for medical assistance for a sick person. 1966. - Rabbi Aryeh Levin [1885–1969], known as the “Father of the Prisoners, ” for during the British Mandate (and afterwards) he would walk every Shabbat on foot to visit the underground fighters imprisoned in the jails, to strengthen and encourage them. He was also known for his visits to the leper hospital in Jerusalem, where no one, not even family members, would enter due to the contagious and incurable disease — yet the righteous Rabbi Aryeh would go in, sit with them, and encourage them, ignoring the risk of contagion. He studied at the Volozhin Yeshiva and was ordained by Rabbi Chaim Berlin. His sole testament was that no eulogies be delivered for him. His son-in-law was Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.
