First edition, printed during the author’s lifetime - Imrei Shefer – sermons on the weekly Torah portions, festivals, celebrations, and eulogies, by the complete sage and kabbalist Rabbi Naftali Ashkenazi of Safed. Venice, 1601. First edition. Alongside important derashot, the book contains eulogies for Rabbi Elazar Azkari (author of Sefer Charedim), Rabbi Yaakov Berav (the second), and Rabbi Yaakov Abulafia. In several places, the author cites Torah teachings from the kabbalists of Safed – the Ari z”l, the holy Alshich, and others. The author, Rabbi Naftali Ashkenazi, was among the sages and kabbalists of Safed in the generation of the disciples of Maran the Beit Yosef, the Ari, his disciple Rabbi Chaim Vital, and others. In his later years, he traveled to Venice, where he printed the present work and passed away in 1602. Owner’s inscription: “Menuach, son of the honorable Rabbi Yitzchak Korkos Itla’yani.” 220 leaves. 19 cm. Good condition. Aging stains. Old leather binding.
