Matnat Yado – The Copy of the Author of Sedei Chemed - Matnat Yado, Part I, responsa on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, by Rabbi Mattityahu b. R. Meir of Dnitzki, from Sharshov. Vilna, 1882. Sole edition. The copy of the author of Sedei Chemed, with his stamps and interesting handwritten inscriptions. Rabbi Chaim Hezekiah Medini wrote that he purchased this book with funds given to him by the wealthy R. Yeshayah Berlin of Riga, together with other books. On the inner side of the binding he affixed a sheet, upon which he recorded in his own handwriting the list of books he acquired with the money received from this patron, whom he refers to as “yedi d nafshi” (“my beloved friend”). Rabbi Chaim Hezekiah Medini (1833–1905), Av Beit Din of Karasubazar (Bilohirsk, Crimea), and later Av Beit Din of Hebron. A great Gaon and outstanding scholar, one of the last great halachic authorities. His work Sedei Chemed is considered an encyclopedic halachic compendium and achieved widespread use in Jewish communities. The philanthropist R. Chaim Yeshayah Berlin, a Chabad activist and relative of the Lubavitch dynasty, stood at the side of the Rebbe Rashab in his public activities and was a central supporter of the Rebbe Rashab.
