On the title page: “Volume I, ” though no further volumes were ever printed. On the front flyleaf: a dedication by Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler. Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler [1892–1954], among the greatest masters of Mussar in all generations, author of Michtav Me’Eliyahu – the quintessential Mussar work studied throughout yeshivot. A disciple of the Kelm school and foremost student of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Braude (son-in-law of the Alter of Kelm). He married Bluma, daughter of Rabbi Nachum Ze’ev Ziv and granddaughter of the Alter of Kelm. He was one of the very few to receive rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski, “Nasi Yisrael, ” to whom he was related. In 1928 he emigrated to England, serving as rabbi in East End and later in Dalston. In the early 1940s, he joined the famed Gateshead Kollel as its spiritual leader, where he invested deeply in both its learning program and financial development. In 1947 he accepted Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman’s invitation to serve as mashgiach ruchani of the Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he settled. His shmuessen became foundational in the yeshiva world, and his work Michtav Me’Eliyahu remains one of the pillars of Mussar literature. [28], 357, [29] pp. 16 cm. Very good condition.
