“The Righteous Convert Avraham ben Avraham” – Letter of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook to the Administrators of the Vaad HaKlali - Interesting and Rare Autograph Letter by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, the First Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael. Addressed to the administrators of the Vaad HaKlali in Jerusalem, regarding financial support for a righteous convert. [Jerusalem, Tammuz 1929], one month before the Hebron riots of 1929. At the time of this letter, Rav Kook had already reached the height of his renown, serving in the exalted position of Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael. Yet, despite bearing the weight of the entire Yishuv upon his shoulders, he did not refrain from personally intervening on behalf of the downtrodden and needy. Here, he delivers to a convert a personal letter to the Vaad HaKlali of Jerusalem, requesting assistance with travel expenses to Tiberias. Accompanying Document: A receipt from the Vaad HaKlali confirming that Rav Kook’s directive was carried out. The righteous convert, Avraham ben Avraham, received the sum of 200 prutot for “travel.” On the lower margin of the receipt appears the convert’s signature in the form of a fingerprint.
