Rare Poster Announcing a Sermon and Tisch by the Munkacs Rebbe, Rabbi Baruch Rabinowitz - Poster issued by the Beit Midrash of Sanz Hasidim in Batei Ungarin, Jerusalem, announcing with joy the holding of the shulchan tahor (Rebbe’s tisch) and a sermon on Shavuot by the righteous Gaon Rabbi Baruch Rabinowitz of Munkacs, son-in-law of the Minchat Elazar of Munkacs. The Rebbe managed to escape from burning Poland and immigrated to Jerusalem in 1944, later traveling to Brazil in 1947. This poster must therefore date from that period. The rare announcement reads: “We are pleased to announce that our Rebbe, the righteous Gaon, Rabbi Baruch Rabinowitz shlit”a, Rav and Av Beit Din of the holy community of Munkacs and the surrounding regions, has agreed to honor us with his appearance in our Beit Midrash on the upcoming holy Shabbat and Shavuot, to lead the prayers and conduct the shulchanot, and also to deliver a sermon, as is his custom, before Akdamut.” Rabbi Baruch Yerachmiel Rabinowitz (1915–1998) married the only daughter of the Minchat Elazar of Munkacs, in a wedding reported in the press as the largest Jewish wedding ever held in Hungary. After the passing of his illustrious father-in-law, he assumed his place in 1937 as Av Beit Din and Rebbe of Munkacs. Despite being only about 22 years old, he led the large community for three years, until the outbreak of World War II. During the war he endured many hardships after being expelled from Munkacs by the authorities (due to his Polish citizenship). After much wandering he survived the Holocaust and arrived in Jerusalem in 1944 with his entire family. Shortly afterward, his wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Fruma, passed away, leaving five young orphans.
