Rare: Likutei Tzvi, by a disciple of the Ohev Yisrael of Apta. Only edition – Zhitomir, Shadov Press, 1866. - Likutei Tzvi, Torah and wisdom teachings by Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Segal of Rowno. Zhitomir, Shadov Press, 1866. Sole and rare edition. The author was in his youth a disciple of the Ohev Yisrael of Apta, as mentioned in the introduction. Later he served among the rabbis of the Rabbinical Seminary in Zhitomir, and remained whole in his faith and piety, never neglecting a single immersion in the mikveh (from the introduction). On leaf 45b he writes: “I heard from the godly Gaon R. Yehoshua Heschel of Apta ztzuk”l…”. On that same page he cites the Toldot Yaakov Yosef and the holy Rabbi Isaac of Koretz. Rare copy: including the final leaf with the list of errata. This edition is not listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book and is not in the National Library. 48 leaves. 20.3 cm. Moderate–good condition, title page and final leaf almost completely detached. Stains. ––– The book was printed by the author’s disciple, the writer Eliezer Zvi Zweifel, who was the foremost defender of Chassidism among the maskilim. Despite attacks from his colleagues, he paid them no mind and authored the series Shalom al Yisrael in support of Chassidism. ––– At the beginning and end of the book are signatures of the Gaon Rabbi Zvi David Kirsch of Krakow, later shochet and bodek in Sassregen. From his descendants came a prominent family (see Sasregen). Some signatures are faded.
