Two early Ashkenazic halachic books. Hanau, 1628 - A volume containing two important halachic works on Ashkenazic customs by the Maharil and the Rema, printed in the same city and year, bound together in an old binding. Zot Torat HaChatat, laws of Issur and Heter by Rabbi Moshe Isserles of Krakow – the Rema. Hanau, 1628. In this edition, the glosses of Rabbi Petachya son of Yosef, one of the leading rabbis of Frankfurt, were printed here for the first time. Ownership signatures. 120 leaves, 17.5 cm. Bound with: Maharil. Legal rulings, laws and customs for the entire year by Rabbi Yaakov Segal Moelin, with the customs of his teacher Rabbi Shalom of Neustadt. Hanau, 1628. With an important addition concerning the customs of Frankfurt by Rabbi Hertz Levi, Av Beit Din of Frankfurt. With the index leaf, not present in all copies. Ownership inscription on the title page: Yosef Hanach of Fuerth. 65 leaves, 17.5 cm. The book of Maharil is the foundation of all Ashkenazic customs, and the Rema relied on it extensively in his rulings. The book Torat HaChatat by the Rema was soon accepted throughout Ashkenaz and Poland as a fundamental work on the laws of Issur and Heter. Both books were printed at the same time by the same printers, and both have the same engraved title page. Good condition. Stains of age. Old vellum binding.
