Two volumes – Former Prophets and Writings. An early and important edition of the Mikraot Gedolot, containing the Biblical text with Targum Onkelos, the Great and Small Masorah, and numerous classical commentaries and grammatical notes. Printed at the renowned Bragadin Press in Venice, almost leaf for leaf and line for line after the celebrated edition of Daniel Bomberg, the founder of the Mikraot Gedolot tradition. This edition includes additional commentaries and linguistic notes, continuing the Venetian printers’ legacy of precision and fidelity to the Masoretic text. At the end of the Writings section appear several significant and rare additions: Targum Yerushalmi, Darkei HaNikud VeHaNeginot (Treatise on Vocalization and Cantillation), the Great Masorah, and a list of Variations between Western and Eastern Manuscripts – an early record of textual differences among Biblical traditions. Former Prophets: [1], 234–445 leaves. 41 cm. Condition: Poor – staining, tears, and general wear. Writings: [1], 772–908; 8; [25] leaves. 41 cm. Condition: Poor – signs of mildew at the lower margins, stains and small tears without loss of text, and traces of fire damage on the outer blank margins. Bindings worn and loose. A notable and relatively scarce edition, reflecting the enduring legacy of the great Hebrew printing enterprise of 17th-century Venice, and the continued role of the Mikraot Gedolot as the foundational text for Biblical study and commentary.
