Four parts bound together in one magnificent and elegant volume. Each of the four sections has its own title page, and in every part appears the approbation of Rabbi Shlomo Salem, rabbi of the Sephardic community of Amsterdam, who praises the publication and the meticulous care taken in preparing the Machzor for communal use. The present copy is bound in its original, beautifully crafted full-leather binding, featuring a large and wide clasp made entirely of pure silver – a rare and impressive element reflecting the prestige of this copy. Throughout the volume, on the opening and closing flyleaves, appear numerous handwritten birth records in Italian script, beginning from the year 1814 (תקע״ד) and onwards – a touching testimony to the Machzor’s continued use over generations within a single family. On the final leaf appears the autograph signature of Cantor Rabbi Yaakov da Silva Mendez, the publisher and one of the leading figures of the Portuguese community of Amsterdam. Order for the Festivals (Mo’adim) – [2], 179 leaves. Order for Fasts (Ta’aniyot) – [1], 132, [2] leaves. Includes the Kinot (dirges) composed by Rabbi David Franco Mendez.
