S’a Solet, Marpe LaNefesh, and Orach Chaim – the three ethical works by Rabbi Raphael Manorti. Amsterdam, 1757–1758 - A fine Amsterdam edition containing three important treatises on ethics and spiritual conduct — S’a Solet, Marpe LaNefesh, and Orach Chaim — authored by Rabbi Raphael Manorti, one of the eminent rabbis of Mantua and Ferrara. The volume opens with a general title page, followed by individual title pages for each work. At the beginning appears an introduction in Portuguese, intended for the descendants of conversos and the Spanish-Portuguese communities. Rabbi Raphael Manorti (ca. 17th–18th centuries) was among the most beloved and prolific moralist-writers of the Italian communities; his books achieved wide circulation and exercised significant influence on Jewish ethical thought in the eighteenth century.
