Atarat Shlomo – Maharshal. Lublin, 1599. Exceptionally Rare Book - Sefer HaSha’arim by Rabbi Yitzchak of Dura, with glosses by Rabbi Yisrael Isserlein (author of Terumat HaDeshen), and the commentary of Rabbi Shlomo ben Yehiel Luria (the Maharshal), titled Atarat Shlomo. Lublin, 1599. First edition of the Maharshal’s important commentary on Sha’arei Dura. (Another edition was printed the same year in a different location.) A fundamental halakhic work on the laws of Yoreh De’ah by Rabbi Yitzchak of Dura, one of the great medieval German authorities. The book is based on the customs of Germany and France and became a foundational source for Yoreh De’ah rulings. The Maharshal’s commentary provides an essential and thorough elucidation of this pivotal text. The final seven leaves are exceedingly rare and missing in many copies. They contain Sefer Shechitot u’Bedikot by Rabbi Yaakov Weil, with commentary by the Maharshal. Among the rarest of all Lublin imprints. 154, [7] leaves. 28 cm. Steinschneider, Sifrei Yesod, no. 242.
