A foundational treatise on the laws of divorce (Gittin), it presents a meticulous analysis of the intricate halachic principles governing Jewish marital law, written with exceptional clarity, precision, and depth of reasoning. Rabbi Moshe ben Chaviv (1654–1696) was among the greatest sages of his generation. He served as Head of the Yeshivat Ha-Mekubalim in Jerusalem and later as Chief Rabbi of the Holy City, bearing the title Rishon Le-Tzion. Renowned for his halachic acumen and his rulings in matters of marriage and the release of Agunot (chained women), he was regarded as a leading halachic authority of his time.
