Pewter Plate – Wedding Ceremony. Germany, circa 1900 - A finely crafted German pewter plate, made around 1900, featuring a shaped gadroon and beaded border. The surface is decorated with relief scenes after a painting by Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, published in 1866, depicting a Jewish wedding ceremony with a Hebrew inscription: “Blessed is He who gladdens the groom with the bride.” Another example of the “Wedding Plate” from this series is held in the collection of the Jewish Museum, London (inv. no.
