A rare and important edition of one of the Maharal of Prague’s central works, Tiferet Yisrael, which deals with the status of the Torah, its essence, and its role in the spiritual world of man and in the life of the Jewish nation. It is one of the most profound and influential books written on the foundations of Jewish faith and has become a cornerstone of Jewish thought. The present volume was printed in 1793 at the sacred press of the righteous Rabbi Moshe Shapira of Slavuta, of the renowned family of printers, grandson of Rabbi Pinchas Shapira of Koretz. According to tradition, every book printed by Rabbi Moshe Shapira was known not only for its technical quality and beauty but also for its sanctity and purity – a printing undertaken “for the sake of Heaven.” The books of Slavuta became revered and cherished for this holiness. The present copy lacks the title page and the following leaf, and the final leaf has a tear affecting the colophon. Nevertheless, the book is in overall good condition; most leaves are clean and well-preserved. Some natural age stains and a few wormholes. Unbound. 3-96 Leaves. 21 cm. Good condition. Wide margins.
