“And may you succeed in all your endeavors” – Letter in the holy autograph of the great kabbalist, the “Baba Sali.” - Historic political letter [which aroused much controversy; see details below], filled with blessings, signed in the holy handwriting of one of the greatest kabbalists of the last generations, the holy Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira – the “Baba Sali.” [Netivot, 10 Sivan 5741 / 1981]. A collection of [4] original documents; the establishment of the Tami party by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Aharon Abuhatzeira. “And the merit of my holy forefathers shall protect you with a thousand shields and grant you success in all your endeavors, Amen, may it be His will… the humble Yisrael Abuhatzeira, great-grandson of the holy and righteous Abir Yaakov Abuhatzeira.” The original letter of blessings, in which the Baba Sali declared his support for the “Tami” party, founded that same year by his nephew, Aharon Abuhatzeira, son of the “Baba Haki.” Thanks to the blessings in this letter, which brought tens of thousands of voters to the polls, the party became the surprise of the 1981 elections and won three seats in the Knesset. This was the first time in Israeli politics that the great political power of the Sephardic rabbis was revealed, as they had until then supported the Ashkenazi Agudat Yisrael party. Before us is a rare and moving historical document bearing the original handwritten signature of the righteous Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira – the Baba Sali z.t.l., one of his last known signatures. The document was signed when the tzaddik was an elderly man, about 91 years old, only about three years before his passing in 1984 (5744). Despite his weakness, his holy signature appears here – a faithful sign of his spiritual strength and holiness even in his later years. A rare and awe-inspiring item, carrying a fragrance of holiness and a final tangible touch from the wonder-worker of our generation, whose prayers and blessings continue to bestow abundance and blessing to this day. A moving historical signature – among the last signed documents of the Baba Sali z.t.l. Background to the letter: In that year Minister Aharon Abuhatzeira was expelled from the National Religious Party by its chairman, Yosef Burg, following 32 police investigations opened against him. As a result, Abuhatzeira founded the Tami party, which no one expected to pass the electoral threshold. The controversy: That year a fierce election campaign took place, and two parties sought the endorsement of the Baba Sali – on one side Agudat Yisrael, which he had traditionally supported, and on the other, Tami, the new party of Aharon Abuhatzeira. But in light of poor polling predictions, on 8 Sivan 5741 Agudat Yisrael acted and had the Baba Sali sign a “Kol Koreh” supporting their list; two days later, the Baba Sali reversed himself and published the present letter, clarifying that his support was given solely to “my beloved nephew … Aharon Abuhatzeira.” The original letter of blessings, signed in the holy handwriting of the Baba Sali. 16 × 17 cm. Very good condition. The letter was cut for layout and printing of the election posters and later professionally re-joined by a paper conservator, as it was originally. Enclosed: [2] original election broadsides printed from the present letter, and one additional original broadside concerning the above-mentioned controversy.
