Marriage Certificate Signed by Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhatzeira, the “Baba Khaki.” Ramla, 1968 [תשכ”ח]. - Marriage certificate of Aharon Abuhatzeira (later a Member of Knesset and Minister), son of Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhatzeira, signed by his father in his capacity as the city’s Rabbi. Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhatzeira (“Sidna Baba Khaki”) [1895–1970], a righteous and wonder-working kabbalist, one of the holy members of the Abuhatzeira family. The son of Rabbi Massoud Abuhatzeira and brother of the “Baba Sali.” He served as a Rabbi in Morocco and, upon immigrating to Israel, was appointed Chief Rabbi of Ramla and Lod. He was born in the town of Rissani, in the Tafilalet region of Morocco. In 1920 he moved to the town of Budniv with his brother, the Baba Sali, following persecutions against the Jews of Rissani and the murder of their elder brother, Rabbi David, by the authorities. In 1936 he settled with his family in Erfoud, then under French rule, where he led the Jewish community. In 1945 he left Morocco and moved to Oran, Algeria, where many Jews from Tafilalet had relocated following the persecutions. In 1948 he immigrated to Israel with his family and was appointed Chief Rabbi of Ramla and Lod, also serving as a member of the Chief Rabbinate Council. Already in Morocco he was renowned for his blessings and miracles, and many came to seek his advice and comfort. One of the miracles recounted by his family is that for many years, two figures would appear regularly in his home – a woman on Fridays and a man on Sundays. After his passing, the family turned to Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, the Baba Sali, to ask who they were. His answer: the woman was none other than Rachel our Matriarch, and the man – Elijah the Prophet, who would come to dwell in the presence of their saintly father. [1] Thick paper leaf. 21×31 cm.
