Official and Decorative Invitation for the Coronation of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef as Rishon LeZion and Honorary President of the Sephardic and Eastern Communities Council of Jerusalem - An elegant invitation issued by the Council of the Sephardic and Eastern Communities of Jerusalem for the coronation ceremony of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, conferring upon him the title of Rishon LeZion and Honorary President of the Community. The ceremony was held at the historic Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai Synagogue in the Old City of Jerusalem. The text of the invitation reads: ”We are honored to invite His Excellency to participate in the coronation ceremony of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, in the crown of ‘Rishon LeZion’ and as Honorary President of the Community Council... This invitation is personal; punctual attendance is requested.” Dated: 3 Nisan 5734 (1974). Although Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was officially appointed Rishon LeZion on 7 Cheshvan 5733 (1972), this invitation appears to commemorate a ceremonial reaffirmation of his position as Honorary President of the Sephardic Community in Jerusalem. Printed on folded color cardstock (16×20 cm), enclosing a sheet of fine vellum paper with the printed text, bound with a gold cord. Condition: Very good.
