Autograph Halachic Responsum and Blessing from the Chazon Ish – Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz - Short halachic response and words of blessing, entirely in the holy handwriting of Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, the renowned “Chazon Ish.” Bnei Brak, 5712 [1952]. At the beginning of the letter, the Chazon Ish acknowledges receipt of a previous letter: “The letter that was sent to me has arrived, and I am awaiting your good words.” He then addresses a halachic question regarding traveling with a woman in childbirth on Shabbat, writing decisively: “The matter is the reverse — I urge that they travel with her.” He concludes the letter with a warm blessing. [1] postcard. 15×10 cm. Condition: very good. It is well known that the handwritten words of great Torah sages are regarded as sacred amulets, particularly when relating to the subject they discuss. See Ma‘aseh Ish (vol. on the Chazon Ish), recounting how a young orphan from the Bobov family came to the Chazon Ish for a blessing to find a match. Deeply moved by his sorrow, the Chazon Ish wrote a kvittel with the young man’s name and his mother’s name and placed it as a segulah inside his own copy of Chazon Ish on Tractate Kiddushin. Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz (1879–1953) – universally known as the Chazon Ish, after his magnum opus – was one of the foremost Torah giants and spiritual leaders of the 20th century. A towering scholar, saint, and halachic authority, he became a guiding force in rebuilding the Torah world in the Land of Israel after the Holocaust, shaping the spiritual foundations of Haredi Jewry in the early years of the State.
