Silver Havdalah Plate – Germany, 19th–20th Century - Elegant and Decorated Silver Havdalah Plate, bearing hallmarks: a crown and “800” silver mark, together with a maker’s mark in the form of a flower and the initials “GG.” A classic example of German craftsmanship from the late 19th to early 20th century, reflecting the refined balance between European elegance and traditional Jewish artistry. At the center appears a raised Star of David within a circular frame, inscribed in Yiddish-German “Gut Voch und Gut Jahr” (“A Good Week and a Good Year”). Around it is the verse “The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” The outer rim is decorated with embossed floral motifs, interspersed with small Stars of David. On the sides are two small handles for carrying, and the plate stands on three shaped legs, giving it a dignified, ceremonial presence. A similar plate, bearing the same maker’s mark, is recorded in the Feuchtwanger Collection, p. 100/1, item 233. Maximum diameter (without handles): 26 cm | Weight: 360 g Condition: Very good.
