Hand-Painted Wimpel – 1889, for the Child Yitzchak son of Aharon - A charming and colorful hand-painted wimpel, created in a simple yet heartfelt folk-art style, made to celebrate the birth of Yitzchak, son of Aharon, born on 28 Tevet 5649 (1889). The wimpel is decorated with vividly colored letters and naïve yet soulful illustrations. Among the painted motifs are the Tablets of the Law, an open Torah scroll, a seven-branched menorah, and a wedding canopy (chuppah) – symbols expressing the parents’ hopes that their newborn son would grow up in a life of Torah, light, and blessing. At the top of the wimpel appears the touching verse: “O Lord, Lord, my strength and my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle” – a prayer for divine protection and blessing, expressing the wish that the child grow up in grace and strength. A distinctive feature of this wimpel is its unusually wide format, significantly broader than typical examples, reflecting the care and thought invested in commemorating this joyous family event.
