A fine letter by the Tiberias emissary (shadar), the sage Rabbi Yaakov Chai Birdogo, of the lineage of King David - A fine letter in fluent Eastern (Sephardic) handwriting, by the accomplished sage Rabbi Yaakov Chai Birdogo, head of the Keter Torah Yeshiva, among the foremost rabbis of Tiberias in his generation and an emissary (shadar) of the city. Written in Tiberias, without a stated date. The Birdogo family is counted among the distinguished and prominent families of Israel, with an ancient tradition tracing its lineage to the House of King David. Presented here is a private, intra-family letter, sent between two members of the family, dealing with personal and familial matters. The contents of the letter have not been examined in depth. This letter constitutes an original written testimony to the activity of the emissaries (shadarim) of the Land of Israel, and to the Eastern (Sephardic) epistolary style customary among the sages of the Holy Land.
