Melitzah for Purim. [Breslau, c. 5560 / 1800] First edition - Melitzah for Purim, a parody in the style of liturgical poetry, intended to increase the joy of Purim and the revelry of drink, [by Yehuda Leib ben-Ze’ev]. [Breslau, c. 5560 / 1800]. First edition. A humorous Purim composition dealing with wine drinking and intoxication. Includes altered prayer passages, piyyutim, songs, and even “selichot” composed for Purim. On the title page: “The year ‘They drank and became intoxicated and hoped’ (minor era).” The pamphlet was printed anonymously; it is commonly accepted that the author is Yehuda Leib ben-Ze’ev. Some leading rabbinic figures opposed this work, which was nevertheless reprinted several times. An article relating to the present work is included. 12 leaves. Approx. 18 cm. Condition: Good.
