Kol Hatan ve-Kol Kallah. Turin, 5586 [1826]. Rare. - An emotional Hebrew poetic booklet printed on the occasion of the marriage of the groom Israel Menachem Ottolenghi and the bride Hannah daughter of Meir Segre. The work includes a festive poem by Hillel Della Torre, opening with the words: “To a friend like a brother, whom my soul loves with deep affection, a cherished youth… and to the bride… on the day of their wedding and the day of the joy of their hearts, ” and reflects the style of Italian Hebrew poetry of the early 19th century—a combination of rich biblical language, personal emotion, and poetic elegance. The author – Hillel Della Torre (Lelio Della Tórre, 1805–1871), one of the prominent figures of Italian Jewry in the 19th century: rabbi, poet, commentator, and translator, and a teacher at the Rabbinical Seminary in Padua. He also served as rabbi in Turin and was an active participant in the revival of Hebrew literature and poetry among the scholars of Italy. Poetic booklets of this type, printed especially for family wedding celebrations, were intended for limited distribution among family members and the local community, and are therefore extremely rare in survival.
