Alon Bakot. Eulogy for Our Master the Malbim, by Rabbi Yitzchak Danzig. St. Petersburg, [1879] - The book was published several months after the passing of our master the Malbim, on Rosh Hashanah 5640. In St. Petersburg of those years there were many cantonists serving in the Czar’s army. As the author writes on the title page: “By rivers of tears our eyes sat there; in the great synagogue of the soldiers called the guardians of the king’s presence here in Petersburg… we wept…” Extremely rare. [1] 24 pages; three title pages. Printed on thick paper with wide margins. Approx. 20 cm. Condition: Good. A few minor wormholes in the inner margins. Simple binding. The author: Rabbi Yitzchak Danzig of St. Petersburg (1837–1917), son of Rabbi Menachem Manish of Slonim. A student of the Volozhin Yeshiva. He served as a halakhic authority and maggid meisharim in several places: Yanova in Lithuania, Malava in Poland, and Mogilev in Russia. In 5639 [1879] he served in the rabbinate of the imperial capital St. Petersburg and was appointed rabbi of the Great Obukhovsky Synagogue. He was distinguished in Torah scholarship, research, and homiletics. In 5672 [1912] he immigrated to the Land of Israel, settled in Jerusalem, and was appointed maggid meisharim of the Zikhron Moshe Synagogue and of the Beit Midrash and Yeshiva of Meah Shearim.
