Or Sameach — complete set of four volumes. First edition. A foundational work - Chiddushim on Mishneh Torah by Maimonides (Rambam), by the Gaon Meir Simcha of Dvinsk. Riga–Warsaw, 1902–1926. First edition. Complete set. All four parts bound together in a single volume. Presented here is the first edition of one of the most important modern commentaries on the Rambam. A complete set, issued over a span of approximately twenty-five years: first the sections on Nashim and Kedushah; subsequently Nezikin and Kinyan; thereafter Hafla’ah, Zera’im, etc.; and finally Madda, Ahavah, and Zemanim. The author, Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen of Dvinsk (5603–5686 | 1843–1926), the famed rabbi of Dvinsk and author of Or Sameach and Meshech Chochmah, was among the greatest Lithuanian gaonim and one of the foremost rabbinic authorities of Eastern Europe before the Holocaust. Revered by the leading rabbis of his generation for his wisdom, character, brilliance, and encyclopedic knowledge, he achieved renown already in his youth. From 5648 (1888) he served as Av Beit Din of Dvinsk alongside the chassidic gaon Rabbi Yosef Rozin, the Rogatchover. He was also widely regarded as a wonder-worker through the power of Torah.
