Set of Machzorim, with wooden board bindings. Homburg, 1737 - Machzor according to the rite of the Ashkenazic communities, surrounded by two commentaries—one in Hebrew and the other in Yiddish. Homburg, 1737. Two volumes. A large and impressive set of machzorim, printed in Homburg by the printer, scribe, and editor Aaron ben Tzvi Hirsch of Dessau, a resident of the Jewish community of Frankfurt am Main, temporarily residing in the Jewish community of Homburg. Printed with all liturgical variants according to Ashkenazic custom, and accompanied by a lengthy Yiddish commentary explaining difficult words and passages. The piyyutim, selichot, and prayers are likewise translated into Yiddish. Issued with full ceremonial embellishment, in an especially dignified and authoritative presentation. Ownership inscriptions: Avraham Moshe. Volume I: [Weekday and Sabbath prayers]; High Holy Days with Selichot. Collation: [3], 3–44, 60, [2], 61–178, 14, [6], 15–128, [1] leaves. On the final leaf are printed Selichot according to the custom of Fürth and several other communities. Volume II: [Weekday and Sabbath prayers]; the Three Festivals and the Four Special Parashiyot. Collation: [3], 250, 59 leaves. Height: 34.5 cm. Condition: Good. Age stains. A few reinforcement patches. Two original wooden boards covered with leather, with remnants of clasps.
