Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (1910–1995), Rosh Yeshiva of Kol Torah, was among the greatest halakhic authorities of the modern era. Often referred to as the posek of the generation, his rulings were accepted across all segments of the Jewish world. At the age of 24 he published Me’orei Esh, a pioneering work on electricity on Shabbat, establishing him as the leading authority on the interface of halakhah and modern technology. His rulings on the laws of Shabbat were recorded by his student Rabbi Neuwirth in Shemirat Shabbat ke-Hilchatah, which quickly became the definitive halakhic guide on Shabbat observance. Renowned for his humility, gentleness, and warmth, he consistently declined to hold official rabbinic office. Hundreds of thousands attended his funeral. [3] leaves; 138; 34 leaves.
