Ohel David — by Rabbi David Deutsch. With numerous authorial marginalia in the author’s own hand. An attributed copy - Ohel David, novellae on various tractates of the Talmud, by Rabbi David Deutsch. Vienna, 1822. The volume contains original insights on the tractates Yevamot, Bava Kamma, Shabbat, Eruvin, and some material on Ketubbot. In his introduction, the author notes that he lacked the means to bring to print all that he had innovated on Tractate Yevamot. The margins throughout the book are filled with numerous annotations and additions in the handwriting of the author. Rabbi David Deutsch (1756–1831) was among the foremost Torah scholars of Hungary, author of Ohel David. He was a distinguished disciple of Rabbi Ezekiel Landau, and dozens of responsa in Noda BiYehuda are addressed to him. Rabbi David Deutsch was also a close associate of Rabbi Moses Sofer. The esteem in which the Ḥatam Sofer held him is evident from a letter in which he wrote that he trusted in Rabbi Deutsch’s great affection and hoped he would remember him favorably in his prayers. In the introduction to Ohel David, published after Rabbi Deutsch’s passing, the Ḥatam Sofer wrote an eloquent tribute praising him as a holy and saintly righteous man, a gaon of the world, and invoking his merit as a blessing and protection for the House of Israel. Rabbi David served as rabbi in Yemnice, Frauenkirchen, Szerdahely, and finally Nové Mesto (“New City”), from which he became widely known. With ownership stamps of Rabbi Samuel Halevi Jungreis, dayan of Košice; son of Rabbi Isaac Zvi Jungreis and son-in-law of Rabbi Abraham Joseph Meir Greenwald (d. 1938). [4], 25 leaves; 23.5 cm.
