An Exceptional Item An impressive and sumptuous set of Maḥzorim, among the most finely produced Hebrew prayer books of the late eighteenth century, printed on high-quality paper with exceptional typographical care. Each volume is furnished with its own engraved title page, displaying a rich and rare iconographic program: illustrated title pages for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and illustrated title pages for the Festivals. Each volume bears its own engraved title page. In the Hebrew Bibliography Project, engraved title pages are recorded only for some of the volumes; the presence here of such a comprehensive suite of illustrated title pages significantly enhances the rarity and importance of this set. The volumes are bound in original, lavishly gilt leather bindings, decorated with motifs of marble columns, a floral vase, angels, and a crown forming an inner frame on both boards; at the center is a stamped name: “Baruch Berlin.” The edges are gilt on all sides with gold leaf. Owner’s signature present. Height: 18 cm. Condition: The text blocks are in very good condition. The bindings show light wear; in some volumes the front or back board is detached. The set is housed in a new custom-made protective box lined with matching marbled paper. By virtue of its elegance, relative completeness, and outstanding bibliographic and aesthetic qualities, this set constitutes an exceptional item for collectors of Ashkenazic liturgical books, scholars of Hebrew printing, and connoisseurs of finely produced sacred works.
