Eshlei Rabrevi, Königsberg, [1859] — including the rare illustrated title page and an especially rare engraved portrait of Rabbi Akiva Eger - Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De’ah, with Commentaries — including the novellae of Rabbi Akiva Eger, published for the first time by his son and grandson. Königsberg, [1859]. Two volumes. A handsome edition of the monumental Eshlei Rabrevi on Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De’ah, with the classic commentators: Turei Zahav, Siftei Kohen, Nekudot HaKesef, Be’er HaGolah, Pri Ḥadash, Degul MeRavavah, Bi’ur HaGra, Pri Megadim, Novellae of Rabbi Akiva Eger, Gilyon Rasha, and Nimukei Ri”b. The first volume contains a large and impressive engraved portrait of Rabbi Akiva Eger, with the caption: “The likeness of the face of the gaon, our teacher Rabbi Akiva Eger, of blessed memory.” This portrait is especially rare and scarcely known. The second volume features an additional splendid illustrated title page, depicting an ornate Holy Ark with flanking lamps and a central bimah. The lithograph was produced specifically for this edition. At the top appears the title of the work, and within the Tablets of the Covenant are listed the names of ten commentaries printed in the book. This magnificent title page is rare and not recorded in the Hebrew Bibliography Project. Two volumes: [5], 260; [2], 312 leaves. Large format: 39 cm. Condition: Fair to good. A few wormholes.
